The loose weave, light weight, and translucent construction of this saree, as well as the contrasting borders in a range of colours, set it apart.
These are also highlighted by a ragged edge pattern. On the weft, coloured cotton yarn is used to weave small borders with a variety of stripes and figured motifs.
Each saree has a distinct design on the border, pallav, and body. The simplest of these sarees takes about 10-12 hours to weave.
It may take up to 5-6 days to produce more complicated designs.
The first step in the saree-making process is to obtain cotton threads.
Cotton thread is bought in bundles from a mill or a local market. The most common starches used for size are sage, arrowroot, rice, and wheat.
After a few washes, the yarn is submerged in boiling coloured water for dying, which is done based on colour and design.
The model is dressed in a blouse from our own collection.
Due to the traditional hand weave, unevenness in the selvedge and weave is to be expected.
